When customizing Affiliate Theme, we generally like to go through the following process:

1. Picking colors and imagery.

   The first step is deciding what colors and imagery we want to use for Affiliate Theme. We have included many background images and header graphics for some of the more popular affiliate marketing niches. For example, for a ringtones sites we would use bright colors and a few pictures of a phone and musical notes.

   

2. Choosing the right layout.

   This can be one of the harder things to get right for new affiliates because they do not know what layouts convert best for their niche.

   Generally, if you are building a landing page, you will want to display only one or two offers per page, but with a review site or portal (similar to the Hot Ring Tones site), it is best to include more offers and different options.

   The 3 and 4-column layouts work great for review sites and portals while the 1 and 2-column layouts tend to work better for landing pages. See the example for the Hot Ring Tones site, below:

   

3. Setting up your Call to Action Buttons to convert.

   You call to action buttons are the buttons that appear beneath your main post image. On the Hot Ring Tones site, for example, the call to action is “Downloading Ringtones!” It is very important that your call to action buttons are clear and concise. We have also heard from many top Internet marketers that orange is the best color for improving your CTR (click-through-ratio).

4. Choosing appropriate typography.

   It is important to consider the target demographic of your affiliate website when choosing font and font size. Depending on how much content you will be publishing on your offer/post pages, you may want to increase or decrease the font size.

   When using fonts on screen, it is important to understand the differences between serif and sans-serif fonts. Serif fonts are the fonts that have little tails— fonts like Times, for example. A sans-serif font, such as Arial, lacks these tails. Newspapers use serif fonts as the claim is that serif fonts are more legible. However, on the web, many people think the opposite.

   Ultimately, choosing a font that looks good and is highly readable is the most important factor when choosing appropriate typography.
